05 July 2009 @ 02:02 pm
4th of July festivities were way fun. I've eaten soooo much food and set off so many fireworks...it's rather weird just sitting around today haha.

The summer is half over. I go back to school August 17th...I'm taking 3 classes, all on-campus this time. Tuesdays are going to kind of suck 'cause 2 of my classes fall on that day so I'll be there from 5:30-10, but I live just a few blocks from campus now, so cutting out the commute time should be super helpful. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday are just from 5:30-6:45. Not too terrible, hopefully.

Livin' in sin is working out really well. I still really like our apartment and walking everywhere and our view....it's just great :)  Combining 2 households has gone really smoothly, we just have a few small things left to purchase and wall hangings to be hung. Nothing major left though.

Mack's been doing extremely well. He's actually quite the big pimp around here haha. He's a pro at the elevator now, and he's got his route that he likes to go on for his potty walks. Joe and I like walking him down to our coffee shop and sitting for an hour or so for a little coffee date. Mack gets ton of attention, which he loves. Good times!

I need to go shopping for dresses for the 3 upcoming weddings we're going to. I'll probably venture out a couple of days after work this week. Joe's in Washington DC until the 11th, so it'll give me something to do. None of the weddings are too formal, which is nice. So I'll just need a couple of summery dresses.

Time to finish laundry and head to the grocery store...

Latest rundown:

I passed all three classes with B's. Which is awesome. Especially considering my History final was a 5-page essay that was written in the span of about 4 hours. And I got 100% on it. Woo! And I'm actually really glad I have to take the summer off. Otherwise I would have had to go back this past Tuesday, which didn't work for me since we just moved last weekend and there's still a lot to do around here.

On that note, we're all moved! Our view of the mountains is amazing. As soon as I find the camera around here somewhere, I'll get a pic up. And our apartment is big and will be spacious once we get all of the unpacking done. We may have to purge some stuff, but that's ok. Mack likes hanging out on the balcony, and hasn't had any accidents at all when we're gone :) He's even getting pretty comfortable with the elevator. It's great to be able to walk everywhere we need to go: grocery store, bar, coffee shop, etc. Once we get Joe's roommate moved this weekend, our driving really should just consist of the commute to and from work and the occasional major errand. And my drive to work is 25 minutes in the morning, and 25-30 minutes in the afteroon as opposed to 40-45 minutes each way :) Even with traffic. So when school starts back up, I'll be able to get some sleep, and not have to be in such a rush all the time, since I'll be able to come home and not have to leave for school until about 15 minutes before class starts and hop on my bike!!! Soooo looking forward to not having to be away from home for 3 hours for an hour and 15 minute class. Hurrah! Also, I'm officially a Junior now. Halfway done! It'll still be a couple of years since I can't take 5 or 6 classes each semester, but there's a light! After the degree itself is done, I'm going to take a little break before I start the Becker review course and CPA exam. One of my team members is in the review right now and just took the first portion of the exam. He took a break after school and the review/exam and said that was the smartest idea he's had because the time and studying involved is intense and it would be easy to get burned out if you don't start out refreshed. Good call.

I had a stellar 90-day review for my promotion. My new supervisor is rather annoying, but he's one of those that's hardly ever in the office, so it's tolerable. And I learn a ton. I'm pretty sure the major ass whooping I pulled out on Cost Accounting last semester was due to my job haha. I have business cards now, go me.

We totally drove behind a school bus that had PBR in the back. That was hilarious.

Guitar Hero World Tour with the whole setup (drums, etc.) is way fun.

Garage parking kicks ass.

I'm super excited that Taylor might be able to come out here from Minnesoooota to go to Brewfest with us. That would be fantastic :)

Time work on unpacking. I'll add more later!

My 4,000-page paper for English is all turned in! Now I just have one discussion post I have to do by Wednesday and that's that. I have a 7-page paper for History, along with a couple of smaller discussion post assignments there, but I'm not overly stressed about it. I have my Cost Accounting final on Tuesday, so that will leave me Wednesday thru Saturday to finish up the History stuff. And I still have all day tomorrow and Monday night as well. It's all good. Yay!

I have to take this summer off of school. It's only 10 weeks, so it's not a HUGE deal, but it still sucks, because that's one more semester I'll have to remain in school. For the 08-09 school year, I don't have enough aid left to cover the entire summer semester. It's enough for a portion, but I'll still have to come up with about 800 bucks in 2 weeks. With moving and car tags and stuff coming up, it's just not very smart for me to cram and pull that money together. Plus, I could definitely use the break after this semester, and we'll be traveling enough for weddings and such that it's just a better idea to start fresh in the fall :)

But, in 2 weeks, I'll be living near campus, which will ease the commute portion of the stress of school. Right now I either have to take the lightrail, which means I have to leave my house an hour and 10 minutes-ish before class even starts, and it takes that long to get home after class...annoying and exhausting...or I can park on campus and pay 5.50 twice a week...expensive. Both are not fun. But I can walk/ride my bike in the future and have a 10-15 minute commute. Woot!

Also on that same note, I can't wait to get moved! We've been slowly getting bills and such transferred over and figuring out what all will need to be purchased the very first day once we get everything in the apartment (the necessities - groceries, bathroom stuff, etc). And I'm way excited for the view :) And for Joe and I to get started on our awesome new life. Perfect timing too...the house Joe and his 2 roommates are renting is just now falling apart. The basement flooded, and the bathtub faucet in the upstairs bathroom suddenly started leaking hot water. It constantly sounds like it's raining. Fun times!

Our 2-year anniversary is on Tuesday. The weekend we first started dating, he took me to this yummy little organic cafe-type place for brunch. Today, he asked if I wanted to go to breakfast (which is the norm after we go out the night before anyway), but he said that since our anniversary is Tuesday, we should go to the cafe again. It was so awesome :)  Their eggs benedict is to die for. And they don't allow cell phones at all, so the whole atmosphere is really happy and pleasant and not annoying. They really strive to have you enjoy your meal with the people you came to enjoy your meal with. Love it!

Ok, I think that's about all for now. Life is good!

Just a quick rundown of the latest and greatest:

The new lease is signed, the renter's insurance purchased, the U-haul reserved...3 1/2 weeks until we get moved :)

We're doing the Furry Scurry on Saturday, as well as the Derby party at the Botanic Gardens. Yes, I will be wearing a dress and hat and the whole shebang. Good times!

May 15th: done with this semester. Can't wait!!!

I have a goofy dog.

I must get back to the homework. Boo.

What an emotional week. I survived the layoffs at work, but was on the brink of failing 2 of my classes, so I've been working my ass off to try and get/stay caught up. The next 4 weeks are going to be just as busy, but I should be ok. And then I will be celebrating. And for the summer, I'm going to take my classes on-campus instead of online since I'll be living just a few blocks away. Hopefully that will help things run a little smoother. Even Joe, a teacher, admits my online workload is entirely too much. I know they're supposed to mirror the amount of time you would be spending in normal class, but these 2 classes have been ridiculous. I expect some stress with my work/school load, but not to the point to where I'm in tears and depressed. I had homework over spring break. Which has never happened before. Not "I'm behind and need to work through spring break to catch up"...it was real assignments due throughout the week. No fun and no bueno. Oh well. Soon, I will be done with English Research! Hooray!!

On a lighter note, Joe and I are going to SuperDiamond on Saturday. That's right, a Neil Diamond cover band haha. It should be a blast...there's a whole group of us going and we're dressing up in the most ridiculous 70's attire possible. We found a neat online vintage store that had the best stuff. Including platforms with the clear heels with plastic floating goldfish. Kick ass!

My promotion is still going well. I'm learning a TON still. I got to fly to Grand Junction for a day last week to meet with some of my people I work with on the phone all the time. That was a good time, I'm looking forward to going to the other stores and meeting those folks as well :)

Let's see...4 weeks left of class, then finals week, then a week off, then moving/Memorial Day, then summer semester starts. Busy busy!! So I better get back to the homework. Ugh!

Joe and I left Denver Thursday morning and got ahead of the blizzard. It hit here in Kansas yesterday morning and it looks like it finally stopped snowing about half an hour ago. But it's still windy so I can't tell. They're saying we got 18+ inches, and there's 6-8ft drifts at the Bed & Breakfast. Hopefully we'll be able to leave to get back to Denver tomorrow!

My birthday was good. Got to my mom's around 4pm and got settled in and went to dinner with my mom, Roger, Travis, and my aunt, uncle and 3 cousins and Joe. It was yummy. And yay Margaritas! My aunt gave me a Target gift card so we can get some stuff for our new place when it gets closer. And mom gave us a couple of coffee mugs from the B&B and this cute turtle that's a pillow, but inside is a blanket. I like that one a lot haha. Our room has a hot tub, so we've been hanging out in there a lot. I haven't slept this good in so long. And it's cold enough (plus we're the only guests this weekend due to the weather) that we just put a case of beer on the balcony right outside of our room. There's also a game room here so we haven't been bored at all.

I'm kind of bummed that spring break is almost over already. Especially considering I STILL had homework to do over it because my history teacher has decided that none of us are in other classes or work or anything and piled the work on. She then had to do an extension of one of the assignments because none of us got it done. Oh welll. 6 more weeks, and this semester is over. I'm taking Native American studies and Business Ethics over the summer. Since I'll be living so close to campus, it'll be easier to get to school, and I won't have to be in a rush to take care of Mack because Joe will be there. Hooray! It will be all better soon. I just need to pass these 3 classes. I can do it!

My family likes Joe. I wasn't worried about it, but now the meeting has officially happened. Yay :) And we travel really well together, which is always a good thing. Especially since we'll be all over the place for the numerous weddings we're going to this summer. I guess I better start dress shopping. Joy haha.

Time to go play!

Dear Mr. Cutler -
Stop being a stupid, whiny-ass bitch. What are you trying to prove? That if you get pissy, you can just get up and move and your parents will get up and move with you? Awesome. I love my team, but I don't have to love the quarterback. Especially one that's more of a girl than I am. I hope you get traded to Detroit and fall on your ass. Because you are NOT untradeable. That is all.

Now we have that out of the way...Joe and I have a new home as of June 1! We're going downtown, baby. It will be nice and convenient for school, still about the same drive to work for both of us, just a slightly different route. Amazing view, washer/dryer, frickin' huge apartment, Mack-friendly...we're very excited!

I get my bottom braces on Wednesday. It was supposed to be next week, but then it would be the day before my birthday and Kansas...probably not the best idea. I'd like to eat with my family while I'm out there haha. Of course, I get the appointment moved and Joe's parents are going to be here this weekend and want to go to dinner with us Friday. So...someplace with soup or a blender?? haha. It'll be fine. I'm sure I'll find something on the menu wherever we go that I can eat.

Joe and I bought ourselves a tv for our birthdays. 46" Sharp Aquos, 1080p, 120htz. It's fantastic. Now we just need to get surround sound...

Ok, I better get back to the evil homework. I'm almost caught up in time for spring break...hopefully I can try and get a little ahead so I don't fall behind again. Yet another reason I'm excited for June :)

That's what it felt like last night looking out of the windows of my apartment...it was so windy that the snow wasn't falling DOWN...just up, left, right, swirly, everywhere. It was cool though. Stacy and her Joe came over and had dinner with me and my Joe, and we played Wii and good times were had by all. She's so cute pregnant and is very happy. We'll definitely try to hang out more. They're good people.

We went to Circuit City today since they are going out of business. Got a $300 GPS for Joe's dad at 50% off. Awesome. Decided not to buy a tv...we figured we both would feel better if we could pay the extra $250 bucks to get it from Best Buy and get a protection plan from a store that will still be here in case we need said protection plan. But that's cool. Should be completely doable in the next few months.

I get my bottom braces on Monday, so right now I'm eating all of the chips, salad, and girl scout cookies I can handle since I won't be able to eat them for a couple of weeks until I adjust again. It's too bad I'm not fat...braces make a really good diet haha. Between not being physically able to eat certain things, plus not wanting ot eat because I'll have to brush my teeth yet again, it's genius. I'm kind of glad I have them now as an adult...beer makes it much better haha.

I need to go clothes shopping. Soon. I just hate shopping. It's an evil cycle haha. I'll probably venture out next weekend for a bit. Or maybe I'll get some good gift cards for my birthday in a month-ish. (Pacific Sunwear, Old Navy, Target....hint hint). Speaking of, I'm taking Joe to FINALLY meet my mom for my birthday. That will be fun. We get to stay at the bed & breakfast my mom works at, and if the weather is nice, drink beer by the lake. Which is always a good time.

Ok, back to homework. This weekend is going way too fast!

The job is still going spectacularly. I'm learning a lot, and actually utilizing that knowledge for school. And it's a whole different scope of work. I love it :)

School is kicking my ass this semester. Seriously. I just wish our coffee shop was a little closer so I could live there for the next few months haha.

We have a lot of weddings to go to this summer. And they're all in a 2-month span. Good thing they're all local, except for one, which will be in Vegas (no, not by Elvis, just a fun trip for all involved).

Not a whole lot of other stuff is going on right now. Work and school. The usual. I'm happy, but stressed and exhausted. I can't wait for this semester to be over!!!

And the promotion is great. I haven't done any data entry, all analysis and spreadsheets and graphs and real accounting work. I LOVE IT!!!

I also got braces put on this morning. Now that my credit cards are paid off, and I have awesome insurance, I can afford to finally get my teeth straightened. They put the top ones on today, as well as spacers in my bottom back teeth,  I go in on the 23rd to get the metal bands on the bottom teeth, and I'll probably get the bottom brackets and wire done a couple of weeks after that. I'm excited to finally get this done :) So far I'm not too uncomfortable...mostly it's just the spacers on the bottom that are really bothering me, but a couple of advil here and there are taking care of that, and they gave me this u-shaped plastic thing to chew on which also helps a lot.

My brother starts working at the gas station in my hometown tomorrow. Sorry mom, that does not mean you can retire and live off of us :P

That's about it. I'm spending my Saturday evening doing homework. Crazy, I know! But I should be graduating about the time I get my braces off hehe.

People are fucked up. So I'm driving  home from work today behind this truck. The guy in the passenger seat is just screaming his lungs out at the girl who's driving. So I'm paying extra attention in case she gets too distracted from getting yelled at since I don't want to get in an accident. But then the guy just starts beating the shit out of her while she's driving! I mean her head bounced off the driver's side window and everything. She managed to pull over and get out of the truck...I hope she was able to stay away long enough for the cops to get there (I totally called 911 on that one). I couldn't get pulled over safely, and the 911 guy told me it's better that I didn't stick around at the scene in case the guy had a gun or came after me or something, but I gave them the truck's description and plates and everything. But WTF?!?! It seriously bothers me that there are people like that out there.

Joe's uncle died this week, so we spent some time in the Springs with his aunt and his mom flew in from CD as well. Went to the Garden of the Gods (and couldn't have had better weather for it unless it was May-ish), and Joe took me around his old haunts, and we spent some time with our friend Aaron's parents (they're like Joe's 2nd parents and had to approve of me haha), and just spent some time with Joe's mom, aunt, and cousin. We went and played bingo and did not win anything, but it was good for his aunt to get out of the house. She's a sweetheart. Joe's family (those that I have met) are all awesome. It's really too bad she had to lose her husband so long, but he had been sick for a looooooong time, so it's more of a relief.

On a lighter note, I do have an addendum to Geoff's rant about the economy. He talks about how us middle class folks need to spend money. Which is great. I do my part :)  However, I witnessed something while in the Springs that would make Geoff go "this is partly why our economy is f$#$ed." We turned onto the street that feeds into the main entrance of the Citadel mall. Standing on the corner to the mall entrance, facing the drivers coming OUT of the mall parking lot, was one of those sandwich-board guys. His sign said "Macy's sale - Everything 30-70% off!" Which is fantastic to point out to people LEAVING the mall. He should have been up on the cross-street so that people turning there could go "oh, sweet, a sale at Macy's, I'll swing by the mall since I'm right here." I highly doubt people would go "Oh, look, Macy's is having a huge sale. Let me turn around and go back into the mall that I just left." Poor advertising strategy that I found quite amusing. *shrug*

Also, 'm very glad I decded to check my school email this weekend, as well as the fact that I got my books ordered and delivered on time. School starts Tuesday, and it turns out my Cost Accounting teacher (not even one of my online classes, this is my on-campus class) decided we have homework that will be turned in on Tuesday night. Lame. So yes, that means I'm procrastinating right now hehe. But it's still lame.

Joe and I are going to the gym together twice a week (this will be our 4th week now). It's not as much as either of us would like, but it's what our schedules allow, and it's better than nothing. My back is already starting to feel better. Not 100%, but definitely better.

Ok, no more procrastinating. I don't want homework to be an excuse to not go to the gym tomorrow night :P

So DC was phenomenal. After a slight delay heading out there, but such is life :)

First off, Joe's mom flies overseas a lot for her job. A LOT. So we got spoiled with business class since she has crazy amounts of frequent flyer miles that had to be used by the end of the year. Hazzah! Also, his parents live next the Griswold's. No joke, that was the most atrocious yard I've ever seen. Inflatables and animatronics, and giant stockings hanging in a tree, and a santa hanging from the top branch of said tree. Not sure how they got him up there, but it was like a beacon letting us know when we were heading in the right direction to get to Joe's parents' house haha. Oh, and there was even Christmas music playing all day and all night. Not loud, we couldn't hear it in the house, but it was definitely there. Joe's parents just bought this house and moved in the week before we came out, so they didn't know until it was too late haha.

We left on the 21st. Our flight was supposed to leave at 12:20. When we were supposed to start boarding at 11:40, an announcement comes over the speaker explaining that it appeared some parking brake valve is shorting out some circuit breaker, so they needed to find a part and fix it. Awesome. So a few hours later they come back and say that they replaced the part, but the shorting out was still happening so they were just going to get us a new plane. Awesome. A couple of hours after that, we get told to go to this other gate. They moved us from a 767 to a 757, so there were only 2 cabins instead of 3. But that meant we got upgraded to first. Awesome! Really, there's not a whole lot of difference between first and business, but whatever. We got a fabulous dinner and desert and finally landed in DC around 11pm Eastern. Sleep!

Monday we had lunch at the Hawk and Dove, then toured the capital and got to go hang out in the House of Representatives. It was cool to see the place where things happen and see how the reps vote and everything. Then we walked around for a bit and got back on the Metro to go to the 'Rents house for dinner. His parents are excellent cooks.

Side note: I have to say, it was exciting to partake in public transportation that was functional and went everywhere and made sense. It was weird being back in my car after all of the trains :)

Tuesday we toured the White House, which was beautifully decorated for Christmas. Breathtaking. Then spent 4 hours at the Holocaust museum, which was really intense, and ended up at Old Ebbit's for some cocktails before meeting back up with the parents for the most spectacular seafood meal I've ever eaten at Kinkead's. I'm talking seafood chowder that just makes you want to cry, scallops that melt in your mouth... I did some serious stretching of the stomach that night haha. We all got dolled up for this dinner, which was way fun. Yes, Toni wore a skirt. I looked hot. But then we forgot to take pictures. We weren't allowed to have ANYTHING (no cameras, not even chapstick) at the White House, so we didn't have the camera on us. But that's ok. After dinner, we went back to the house and dozed on the couch until bedtime. Fat and happy.

Wednesday we had a lazy day. Slept until noon kinda day, which was mucho necesario. Woke up, had some food, played wii all day. Joe's parents have a wii, that's just cool. Although, I had been so busy with school, I was a little out of wii bowling shape, so I had a sore shoulder for a couple of days hehe. The traditional Christmas Eve Eve dinner is ribs. YUM! So we grubbed on ribs for awhile until no more would fit in our bellies, then dozed on the couch for a bit while we watched Christmas Vacation before bedtime. Fat and happy. (noticing a theme?)

Thursday. Merry Christmas! Joe and his parents went above and beyond to make this Christmas great. His parents got me this year's White House Christmas tree ornament, which is really neat. They also got me a hat/scarf/glove set, which are super soft and warm. Love them :)  I also have a coffee mug from Lithuania, some rosewater lotion from Bulgaria that smells really good (see, his mom goes everywhere), as well as some chocolates that have taken a lot of willpower to avoid just inhaling the whole box. Oh, and Joe and I both got remote control helicopters, which has been highly entertaining with my dog since we got home haha. We got his parents some stuff for the wii (wii points so they could buy some old-school games, and a controller charging station), and we got his mom a teapot that is this really neat red-to-orange color. After presents, Joe and I went and did the mall. Then back home for a HUGE turkey dinner, we seriously spent like 3 hours eating that meal. Not sitting around the table talking about the meal, but physically eating. Then we watched A Christmas Story. Then sleepytime. Fat and happy.

Friday Joe and I did the National Archives, Natural History, and American History museums. Then back home for steaks. Then we watched V for Vendetta. Then sleep. Fat and happy.

Saturday we got up and went to Arlington to spend a few hours. Kennedy, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and Robert E. Lee's house. Very cool and amazing. Then some shopping, and back home for "clean the fridge." Which means working on all of the Christmas leftovers. And boy did we work on it. I don't think I felt anything resembling hunger the entire time we were there haha. Then we just kinda relaxed and watched Big Fish, then packed and went to sleep. Still fat and happy haha.

Sunday's flight was flawless, we left on time, got our lovely business class full lay-down seats (I totally passed out watching an episode of "House"), had another yummy meal, and arrived back in Denver 20 minutes early :)

Had to go back to work today, but Joe's still off until next Monday. Gotta love teachers! But after I got off work we spent a little over an hour at the gym, and we're going back on Wednesday. Gotta work off everything we ate during our superb vacation week haha. Actually, we didn't do too bad since we walked around forever just about every day we were there. Mostly we decided this is the week we HAVE to start going to the gym consistently because I'm tired of my back hurting all of the time. And since I won't have to physically go to class 4 days a week this upcoming semester, Mondays and Wednesdays were easy to commit to. We'll add a 3rd day as we can, but we wanted to be realistic and actually be able to achieve the goal, so Monday/Wednesday it is!

Mack was with a sitter the whole time we were gone, a friend of mine from work. The friend took Mack to his parents' for Christmas day and they loved him so much that they told me if my friend's not available the next time I need a sitter, they are more than willing to take him haha. From the sounds of it, fun was had by all.

And now it's time for bed. Not so fat, but still way happy :) I have the most wonderful boyfriend, and spectacular future in-laws (always a plus!), and life is just great :)

So now, as soon as I get that back from the editor person, I'll just have the revisions on that essay, revisions on one of my earlier essays, the "personal statement" on what I've learned in the class, and a cover page, and I am done. I can get all of that done by Thursday at midnight, no problem. I have my Speech final tomorrow, but that should only take me an hour, so I can work on said portfolio for a bit after that, crank out the rest Wednesday, spill over into Thursday if I have to, but it's looking like I'll have it all turned in Wednesday. Woot! I guess my new desk and chair really help my productivity. I'm not feeling too stressed about finals week at all.

Have I mentioned I'm uber excited about going to DC for Christmas? I've met his mom a few times now, but haven't met his dad. But Joe assures me that his dad will like me. Mostly because I'm not opposed to food. I guess they have this big rib dinner on Christmas Eve, then do a traditional thing for Christmas Day. He said his dad will label me as a keeper when he finds out my reaction was along the lines of "Sweet, bring it on."

I have a couple of good, fun weekends coming up:

Friday, 12/12 - Tom's Christmas Concert
                       - Christine's 30th birthday party

Saturday, 12/13 - Ft. Collins for Dirty's Birthday

Friday, 12/19 - Ft. Collins for John's Birthday and the Annual Poker Tournament of Fish

Saturday, 12/20 - James' Birthday @ Sing-Sing

Sunday, 12/21 - Leave for DC!!!!!

Friday, 1/9 - JT is here!!

Whew! Other than that, though, I get to relax and get some stuff done around the house. Like purging crap from the past few years that I've only kept because I've become somewhat of a packrat hehe.

Well, I should get some sleep. It was sleeting for awhile earlier, and now I can't tell if it's still doing that or finally turned to full-on snow, but it's cold and will definitely be icy in the morning.

Well we got the confirmation the other day...we are indeed heading to DC to spend Christmas with Joe's parents. Yay!! And, I get a whole week off. We're leaving the 21st, coming back the 28th. We're definitely touring the Capitol, and we find out this week if we get a White House tour as well. I've never been further east than Chicago/St. Louis, so this will be a neat trip. I'm looking forward to spending some time with the future in-laws :)

I'm fairly close to being done with my final portfolio for my English class. That's due this Friday at noon (so really Thursday night for me). Other than that, I have my Speech final on Tuesday night and I'm done until January 20th. Also Yay! And I'm all registered for next semester, so it will be a relatively relaxing 5 weeks. I get to start going to the gym again!

So close!
